Christmas in Stockholm

Maybe you remember seeing the pictues last Christmas of the windows at NK. They outfit it every year with some fantastic Christmas window dressing. This year, however, I wasn't able to get very close to the windows to take a picture. Will try maybe later but for now, it wasn't possible. It was fun, though, to see the awe-struck expressions on the faces of the little ones.

The lights are up in Gamla Stan. This part of Stockholm is beautiful all by itself but you throw in some Christmas lights and it's just, well definitely gets you in the Christmas spirit.

One of the things I really like here as for as how Christmas decorations go here is the simplicity. Most Christmas trees are very simply decorated with a few lights and maybe some ornaments. The point is, you can see the green of the tree. Also most windows have either candles or stars in them. Since it gets dark so early, it's a nice, cozy feeling all of the lights in the window. I bought a few stars for my apartment. Had to take picture of it. :)

Another entry dedicated to my favorite pastry

I realize I have probably posted about this alreay but just to drive the point home, I really really like their version of cinnamon buns here. Actually this picture is of a cardemon bun which I like even better. The buns here are not heavy laden with icing. There isn't an overload of sugar in the bun either. It strikes the right balance. I am not usually one for pastry but I have one of these once a month.

Some pics that designates it's winter (or close to it)

This first picture is taken at one of the places I go to regularly. It's small and cozy. Epecially now, the candle light and everyone packed in the place now that there's no outdoor seating.

This next picture is a signal that optimal bike riding weather is over. This is in my basement (my bike is in there somewhere).

The gloomy days of November

Sitting at my table (was about to type breakfast table but only have one table) eating breakfast, looking out of my window to see what kind of day it's going to be. Gloomy. That's the best word to describe the weather now. Gloomy is more the rule than the exception. It affects everything. For the most part, you want to hibernate which can be a good thing. You can catch up reading, sleeping, etc. Hours of daylight have diminished so you have the tendency to think it's almost time to go to bed since it's been dark a few hours but it's only 6:00. So you light candles to give your home a cozy feel and give it more light to counteract the darkness.

Won't lie, it's tough for this someone being from the bright state of Texas.

But I do look forward to seeing the sun again - just may be awhile.
